(239) NDIC FIRST WITH VCT; ADDS ECHOCARDIOLOGY SYSTEM "This new technology ushers in the next generation of medical imaging products," comments NDIC Chief Executive Officer Mike Conrath. "It brings a distinct set of new capabilities and opens the doors to new and advanced procedure possibilities in non-invasive diagnostic imaging." The VCT, also know as a 64-slice CT scanner, was recently featured in and article in Time Magazine on breakthroughs in diagnosis of cardiac problems. It provides significantly higher resolution and coverage speed than earlier versions. In fact, static organs can be imaged in one second, the lung in two seconds, and a whole body scan can be completed in less than 10 seconds. Additionally, because this technology is able to catch dynamic events much more easily, it can serve wholly new diagnostic functions. A complete coronary angiogram can be acquired within five heartbeats. As configured, the VCT increases high resolution volume coverage by a factor of four when compared to currently available best technology in the area. So, it captures four times the area with each rotation. The echocardiology system, developed by Siemens Medical Solutions, provides physicians with unprecedented ultrasound images of anatomy and pathology. Providing cleaner and crisper images, it helps in the early diagnosis of heart disease, the number one killer of both men and women in the United States today." One key technological advancement in the system is "Tissue Equalization," which identifies if the ultrasound echoes are coming from soft tissue or artifacts. As a result, images are automatically made clearer. In fact, when imaged with the Sequoia, difficult-to-image patients, including those with an artificial heart valve, excessive scarring, or extreme obesity, can often avoid additional diagnostic procedures that can sometimes be costly and uncomfortable. "Both the VCT and the echocardiology system reflect our continuing commitment to providing the latest technology in medical diagnostics," concludes Conrath. "As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we see this as vital to maintaining our leadership position." Naples Diagnostic Imaging Centers offers Open and High Field MRI, Diagnostic Radiology, Spiral CT, Mammography with Computer-Aided Detection, Positron Emission Tomography (P.E.T.), PET/16-detector CT, Osteoporosis Evaluation, Ultrasound, Breast MRI with Computer-Aided Detection, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Nuclear Medicine and Non-invasive Vascular Testing. Its physicians, all associated with Naples Radiologists, P.A., are the only in their field to have privileges at Naples Community and North Collier Hospitals. Four locations - NCH Medical Plaza, North Naples, East Naples and Marco Island - are available to serve patients. Scheduling can be arranged by calling 435-7777.
